I Am Not Vain.
Between my wife and I we have over 8500 images stored in iPhoto and only a handful are of a caliber high enough to represent me in my best light. This is a photomontage of my face from a group of portraits my wife took of me for an assignment. Lucky for me, she got into photography a few months back and even though she regularly steals my Canon 20D, she has actually taken some pictures of me that I am proud to share. What better than one of me? Why four of me of course! Do not fixate on my face, rather, enjoy my wife’s photographic skills.
Allow myself to introduce… myself…
My name is Mark McClellan. I am a web/UI designer currently living and working in the Phoenix area. I am a resident alien in the state of Arizona in that I am a proud California native that has left my homeland in search of a better life for my family. I am married with three kids. I am trying to convince my wife, Kylee, to start a blog if for no other reason than to give me the excuse to tinker with another WordPress theme, but it would be nice to have someone blog about our family because I am just not very good at that. But for now, I’ll take care of that.
I have two identical twin sons, Alex and Jack, and they are five years old. Their claim to fame is that they once had a role on the TV show Reba but they are on to bigger and better things now, like learning how to read, t-ball and video games. The TV thing was kind of fun and interesting for a while but one day they just quit calling and we saw their replacement on the show shortly thereafter. Oh well, at least I got to meet Stephen Spielberg while they were hot but he still cut their scene out of that movie. Jerk (just kidding Steve, call me! We’ll do lunch and talk Indiana Jones 4!).
Sydney is my daughter and she turns two in april, which is about the time that she will own this place. She pretty much runs the show around here and if you do not believe me, just try taking her chapstick away. Syd’s a girlie girl that loves dolls and would wear her black patent leather shoes around non-stop if we had not invented some creative trickery to talk her out of them.
Currently I work for Unicon, Inc. as a UI Designer. I work in the services side of the company which offers consulting and support for various open source applications used by higher education. Most of what I do consists of customizing web portals and their accompanying web applications (channels or portlets). I have worked extensively with applications such as uPortal, Sakai, CAS, and Unicon’s own Academus Suite. I have also worked with other open source applications such as Zimbra, Joomla! (Mambo), Drupal, RedDot, and my most favorite piece of blogging software, WordPress! I also freelance a lot mostly for Andrew, I mean ESG Utah. We are working together to make his company great and we are just getting started.
About This Site
This site is my blog and will fill a gaping need that I have had for quite some time. As a designer I have the need to have an up-to-date web portfolio to show my work so I have decided to fill this need with a blog. I will keep a ’showcase’ of projects that I feel deserve to be highlighted on a permanent basis on ‘portfolio’ page, but I will also use my blog to capture the moments of my work and my life as it happens. So, if you are checking out my portfolio, be sure to check out my blog categories to see more of my work (as I plan to add it there someday).
